Me as a Dad

I have two happy, clever, funny boys. But I am not holding myself up as an example of how to be a great Dad. Far from it! I find it extremely hard to be the Dad I want to be while keeping enough of myself and my marriage.

I asked my two boys what they thought of me as a Dad, just before I started blogging.

My 8-year-old said: 'Scary but cuddly. 9.5 out of 10'.

My 6-year-old said: 'Funny, snuggly. 9.5 out of 10'.

Scary? I'll show them scary…

One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. "Oh, no," I said, "Disneyland burned down." He cried and cried, but I think that deep down he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.
